How do some big lottery winners keep their feet firmly planted on the ground?  For Nigel and Sharon Mather, who won £12.4 million in 2010, they knew money could not buy everything, and they have been through rough times financially.  Before their win Nigel had worked long hours at a hotel and his wife worked for the council.  They also lost a niece to cancer 5 years prior to their big win.

When they won, they set  out to help family members and town mates, including the Francis House Hospice which helped their late niece.  It also allowed Sharon to become the full-time mom she always wanted to be.  Though they live in a more luxurious house and drive fancy vehicles now, they claim their values remain the same.
