Ex-Girlfriend Sues Big Powerball Winner

Just last spring, people were envious of an immigrant from the Dominican Republic who won a huge $338 million Powerball jackpot.  There was even more praise for winner Pedro Quezada, who promised to pay for the his neighbors’ rents.  Sadly, the dark side of sudden riches may have caught up with him as an ex-girlfriend is suing him for a share of the money.

Former girlfriend Inez Sanchez recently moved out of the home they shared amid allegations of domestic abuse, then sued to gain access to a share of the winnings which amounted to $152 million after taxes.

Quezada’s lawyers argue that since the pair were never married, there is no basis for the claims.  Inez Sanchez’s lawyers contend that since Quezada bought the ticket on shared income while they lived and had a child together for all of ten years, Sanchez has every right to claim her share of the bounty.  Sanchez and Quesada even co-own a grocery store.

No one can predict who will win this legal battle, but there is no denying that it has torn the family apart.
