Hospital Syndicate Hit Jackpot – But Bosses Banned The Bubbly

A 30 strong syndicate of women from Lady Home Hospital have been revealed as the UK Lotto jackpot winners from Saturday 30th April.

The hospital workers were presented with a cheque for £1,339,367 in front of the hospital in Douglas, Lanarkshire, while staff and patients looked on from the windows above.

The group started playing in a UK Lotto syndicate just 3 months after it started back in 1994. They picked their numbers at random and have played the same set of numbers every week since.

The timing of the win was a little unfortunate for the previous syndicate manager who retired in December last year. But current manager, the appropriately named Julie McLuckie, 39, says she was pretty sure the girls would all get her a little something.

The group didn’t believe Julie to start with, but word soon got around:

The atmosphere in the hospital was electric and I am over the moon as it couldn’t happen to a better bunch of girls.

Celebrations are being planned and family shopping lists consist of holidays, new windows, cars – and a camper van for me!  Seriously, winning the jackpot has been a wonderful uplifting experience in these financially hard times.

NHS bosses did however put a slight dampener on the presentation celebrations.

The girls were all posed with bottle and glasses of bubbly for photos – which were promptly confiscated afterwards before a drop could pass their lips. A spokesperson for NHS Lanarkshire confirmed they were a ‘health promoting organisation’ and did therefore have a strict policy of no alcohol.

A proper celebration will no doubt be forthcoming once the girls have worked around their shift schedules.

Their winning UK Lotto numbers were 1, 6, 12, 29, 36, 44. Each member of the syndicate will receive £44,645.
