In a true rags to riches story, a beggar in India has won 6.5 million rupees from the state-run Akshaya Lottery.
Ponnaiyya had been a mason before an accident took his leg and he had to turn to asking for alms to feed his family. Now the man will not have to worry about finances if he manages his newfound wealth properly. It was the ticket agent who informed him he was a winner and took him to a police station for safety.
His relatives have come to take him from Kerala, where he begs, back home to Andhra Pradesh.
