An Indian woman doctor, Nishita Radhakrishna Pillai, from Parappanangadi in Malappuram, has won the top prize of the Abu Dhabi Duty Free Raffle. The prize of ten million dirhams, or Rs 17.5 crore. The thing is, the doctor and her family are no even residents of Abu Dhabi anymore!
The woman’s husband loves trying his luck in the raffle and would buy 5 tickets per draw in his wife’s name. When they moved back to Houston so she can finish a fellowship in genetics. But her husband continued buying raffle ticket in her name online. In fact they have bought a total of 5o tickets. But now their ‘investment’ in raffle tickets have paid off quite handsomely.
But when the raffle organizers first called, they thought it was a joke. Only after viewing the Big Ticket website did they become convinced of the win.
They have yet to decide what to do with their windfall.
