A Portuguese national, who resides in Lagos, Algarve, has won a €32 million jackpot from the Euromillions. The state gets to keep 20% of the total as tax, leaving the winner with a clean €25.9 million.
Portugal levies a 20% tax on winnings above €5,000, which has given the government almost €14 million in revenue in March alone. Euromillions, Totoloto, Joker and Totobola lotteries operate in the country.
