Sorry, Your Lottery Winnings Check Has Bounced!

It was an embarassing week for the Illinois lottery, when winners started complaining that their winnings checks were not being honoured by the bank!

In all 85 winners with winnings totalling over $159,000 were affected.

The Illinois Lottery were quick to point out that the checks had not actually bounced, because there were sufficient funds in the account to cover the payments. The problem was more technical in nature, meaning the checks had actually failed the banks security procedures due to missing verification codes.

This came as small comfort to the 85 winners who nervously attempted to cash their checks a second time.

Red faced lottery officials have assured winners the checks will now be accepted, and any out of pocket expenses they incur from the error will be covered.
