Three New Yorkers received a total of $16.7 million in prizes Thursday.

The first winner is Jose Mendez and his wife. The pair usually buys Take5, Powerball, and Mega Millions tickets every Friday after work. They decided to try a new tack on June 30 and bought LOTTO game tickets instead. That was all that’s needed to give them a $4.7 million win after their ticket matched all 6 numbers drawn.

The warehouse manager credits his wife with win, saying he did not even want to buy tickets then, but she convinced him otherwise. They take home $2,018,143 net of taxes. They plan to buy a new house with a pool.

The second winner, Eric DeBeauchamp, was having lunch with his mother at the Pitstop Pantry on Montauk Highway in East Moriches, when he thought of buying a $5 Million Fortune ticket. He specifically chose the 13th ticket in the booklet as 13 is his lucky number. Turns out he was right. The ticket revealed the top prize of $5 million!

He will take a lump sum payment of $3,309,000 net of taxes which he plans to use to buy a new home, start a business and to go on vacations.

The biggest winner of the three is administrative assistant Yangi Sherpa from Woodside. Her ticket matched all five numbers plus the Cash Ball in the July 17 CASH4LIFE draw. That gave her a guaranteed win of $7 million before taxes. She says she only played the game at her father’s suggestion. She received the prize as a one-time payment of $4,361,280 after taxes.
