The record Powerball prize was shared between two winning tickets on Saturday night.

Each ticket will collect $17,612,427 – half of the total jackpot prize of $35,224,854.

One of the winning tickets was sold at New World in Dannevirke, whilst the second  was bought at Take Note Dinsdale in Hamilton.

A spokesperson for NZ Lotteries said:

Winning a total of $17.7 million is absolutely life-changing for these players. If you are verified as the big winner, a NZ Lotteries representative will then advise how you can claim your prize in privacy and we can offer practical advice and emotional support.

Tickets sales were flat out ahead of the record jackpot, with retailers up and down the country reporting long queues at the terminals.
