His own house may have burned down last Winter…

But this year has been a whole lot luckier for New York City firefighter Stephen Kirwan.

On Tuesday Stephen was announced as the big $122 Million Powerball winner from 22nd January.

“I sat at the kitchen table on Sunday morning and checked my numbers in the paper as usual,” he said. “I checked those numbers three times before I finally turned to my wife and said ‘I think I won.’”

Kirwan picked his numbers at random. “They don’t mean anything,” he said.

His winning ticket contained 5 lines of numbers, which cost him $5 total.

The winning Powerball numbers were 30-31-34-45-51 with a Powerball of 23.

I was contacted by a @stephenkirwan05 on twitter (with a pic showing him holding the lottery prize check) with an offer to pay off my credit card. He only wanted me to buy some gift cards for a charity of his. Guess what. Discover Card says his check was returned as no good. Good thing is that I did not buy any gift cards.
