How would you feel if you won a $2 million jackpot from the lottery, then had to wait four years for a payout that drastically reduces the prize to $710,000? Not very happy as Michigan man Mahmoud Dabaja is after accepting a substantially reduced settlement with the lottery.
In a way, Dabaja should be very happy he still got paid a substantial amount as he is unable to physically produce the winning ticket – he had lost it. However, surveillance videos and testimony from the retailer bolstered Dabaja’s claim that the court and the lottery cannot ignore.
At some point there have also been claims for the right to a share of the winnings from Dabaja’s ex-wife, brother and another man – all of which did not prosper. The Ohio court approved Dabaja’s settlement with the lottery.
