Shahela Hossain of Poughkeepsie plays the lottery a couple of times a week. The Bangladeshi woman does that despite admittedly never thinking that she would ever win big. But perhaps she had been hoping and praying for a big win, because win she did.
It was a $5 “Million Dollar Winner” scratch-off ticket she bought at Modena Citgo on Route 32 in Modena, Ulster County, that she owns with her husband, Mohammed Hossain, which gave her an instant win of $1 million. The lottery win would net her $516,204 after the required deductions.
She plans to use the winnings for her family, perhaps even extending to cover the college tuition later for her two young children.
