Dennis Farmer initially thought his Virginia Lottery “Winner Take All” scratcher ticket had only won $10. He handed it to his girlfriend who thought he won $10,000. They were both wrong, however. The people at Hayes 7-11 corrected them – he had really won the top prize of $1 million. It was the 7-11 store that won $10,000 as bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The shipyard workers says he had been playing since the lottery started and this is the biggest he had won so far. He chose the cash option instead of receiving the full amount over thirty years and received $537,393 net of taxes.
He now wants to pay off bills, buy a new set of wheels and find something fun to do.
