When Buffalo Public Schools special education teacher Margaret Dolan picked up a “Win for Life” scratch-off ticket from a Rite Aid in the Town of Tonawanda, she did know that it would change her life. Actually, she kept the ticket in her purse and forgot about it for a couple of days. But when she checked it, she found that she had won the top prize of a million dollars.
She found her good fortune hard to believe and took a few days more before claiming the prize. She opted to receive a single payment of $513,979 after taxes.
She says the money will have no immediate effect on her life; she plans to continue teaching, will only take a vacation or two and help out family. But she acknowledges that it would help her have a more comfortable retirement in the future.
