It started as a joke for Sal Bentivegna, 28, to taunt his mother.
They were playing the penny slots machine in Atlantic City, and losing. So jokingly Sal suggested his mother say a prayer to win the lottery – and ask her God for a million dollars.
His mother, Gloria, refused to pray for such a self-serving reward.
So taking things a step further, atheist Sal decided to pray to win the lottery instead:
God, I don’t know if you’re real or not, but if you are there, please let my mother win a million dollars.
Adding that, if Jesus wanted Sal to believe, then clearly he would comply with the prayer.
It was only the next day when Gloria was at a church charity auction that her son’s prayer received an answer.
Buying a ‘lotto tree’ of scratch off tickets Gloria hit the jackpot prize on the New York Lottery Sweet Million game. She will now receive $50,000 every year for 20 years… or $1 Million.
A somewhat bemused Sal couldn’t help but think that his lottery prayer had been heard – after all, it was a million dollars, and the very next day.
I can’t shrug off that Jesus had a hand in it. No pun intended, it was a Godsend.
His mother is naturally thrilled at the big win, but also at her son’s overnight conversion:
God performed two miracles.
Have you ever prayed for a lottery win? Do you believe this was an act of devine intervention?
