For a pub landlord and landlady the carpet at their place of business was all the magic they needed to bag a huge lottery win.
Nick and Zoe Hoare have been putting 100 hour weeks at the White Horse Inn in Quidhampton, near Salisbury, Wiltshire which they have been running for the last three years. As part of spring cleaning, they sent their carpets over to the cleaners. When Nick went to pick the carpets up, he stopped at Waitrose in Salisbury to purchase a couple of Euromillions tickets, stuck them in his wallet and forgot about it.
It was past lunchtime the day after the May 9 draw when he discovered that the Millionaire Raffle code matched those drawn. His wife Zoe would not immediately believe it so she double-checked the numbers. But they had really won.
They did not immediately close the pub as they didn’t want to disappoint loyal customers, but plan to give up the lease in 6 months. Their plans also include a new home, new cars, and some travel. All because they had to have the carpets cleaned.
