The Illinois Lottery confirmed that, due to a human error, it had issued 8 checks worth a total of $9,940 to winners.  One person failed to approve payments of the winning checks on time, so the bank did not release payment.

The Lottery officials contacted all eight winners and issued new checks to cover their winnings and charges they incurred for bounced checks.  Officials say they are also looking for ways to prevent the same error happening again.
