When Margaret Loughrey won £27m on the Euromillions lottery in December 2013, she set the record for the biggest ever jackpot won in Northern Ireland.  And just a little more than half a year on, it seems that Northern Ireland is set to benefit from her win.  Loughrey has bought the historic Herdman’s Mill in Co Tyrone, and plans to turn it into a leisure and tourism complex.

The mill was founded in 1835 and contains a complex of buildings set on 62 acres of land by the River Mourne.  When the mill closed in 2011, the property was bought by a company intending t0 put up an energy park, which did not push through.  Then Loughrey bought it for an undisclosed sum.

Her plans for the site includes residences, preserving historic factory buildings, sports facilities, an electricity plant and mixed-use land development.
