Geoff and Hilary Bennette from Blackburn are now celebrating winning £3,530,707 on the UK Lotto.
The couple held one of the two winning tickets from the draw held on Saturday 18th June. The total jackpot was a rollover of £7,061,414.
Geoff, 61, who just retired last year from Bolton Council, together with wife Hilary, 54, are planning to jet off on adventures around the world. They’d like to go back and see more of Australia, and visit beautiful New Zealand too. Then there’s Canada plus the USA.
But instead of the fancy sports car or luxury limo, Geoff harbours a secret longing for a brand new Mini Cooper. Having had very fond memories of the mini he owned back when he was a teenager.
I use to have one when I was 17 and it was great. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of a new one.
Geoff bought the lucky dip winning ticket when was out doing the weekly grocery shopping at a Tesco’s in Accrington. But like a lot of people, it wasn’t until Sunday morning when he was browsing Teletext that he checked the lottery results.
I saw all of our six numbers on the screen and just stared at them in amazement.
He ran upstairs to wake his still sleeping wife. They then both sat staring in disbelief at the numbers on the TV.
The couple kept things as low key as they could that day but did celebrate with a bottle of champagne. And called Camelot as soon as the claim line opened on Monday morning.
Hilary plans to continue her job as a nursery school teacher, but when she does decide to retire the Bennette’s may make the move away from their beloved Blackburn of 20 years.
Possibly to a little cottage near the sea.
The winning numbers UK Lotto from Saturday 18th June were 3, 8, 10, 35, 38 and 39 – with a bonus ball of 31.
