Changes in the prize structure of the Mega Millions Lottery has resulted in the first player in the country to win $3 million.  Everette Sloop Jr.’s ticket which he bought at the Kangaroo Express on East Main Street managed to match the five white balls, but not the Mega ball and would have won only$1 million; the $1 he paid to avail of the megaplier option multiplied the prize by a factor of 3.

Sloop had gone out of the house to his car to check on lottery results by phone.  He had a hard time believing he had really won that he called the lottery five times just to be sure.  His winnings will amount to $2,040,000 after state and federal taxes are withheld.  He now plans to buy a new house, a car for his mother, and to take care of family with his winnings.

Though Sloop beat odds of 1 in 18.4 million to win his prize, the big one still got away as nobody was able to match five white balls and the Mega ball.  The prize for the next Mega Millions draw is expected to reach $205 million.
