Wesley Harrelson of Wilmington, North Carolina bought his tickets for Thursday’s lottery draw at Russell’s Quik Stop on Wrightsville Avenue, never really expecting anything life changing. But when he scanned his ticket at the store the day after the draw, he was stunned to learn that he had won half of a $676,784 jackpot.
He says he’s still convincing himself of the reality of his win. Harrelson, who is the owner and operator of Harrelson Electric Co, now plans to use the money, which totals $230,073, to pay off bills and to go on a trip to Florida.
The other winning ticket was bought from Duck Thru Food Store on U.S. 158 in Camden. The still unidentified winner has 180 days to make his or her claim for the other half of the jackpot.
Lottery players will be inspired by Harrelson’s take on winning: “If I can win, anyone can.”
