A couple from Hope Mills have just struck it rich in the lottery.

Ronald and Kathy Adams bought tickets at the Short Stop on South Main Street on Saturday.  She was elated to win $200 dollars on her ticket.  But after Ronald scratched off his $4,000 Platinum Payout ticket, he suddenly grew pale.  When he told his wife and she saw the ticket, it was her turn to get excited – so excited he had to calm her down.  His ticket had won a million dollar second prize of the game!

They later presented themselves to the North Carolina Education Lottery office to make their claim on Tuesday.  Once there, they chose to receive the prize in a single lump sum payment of $415,506 net of taxes.

Kathy has always wanted a Jeep, but now says with the money she will purchase a bigger SUV so she can take her mother to see her sister in the mountains.  Husband and wife also want to go on a hunting trip.

Three top prizes of $4 million and three second prizes of $1 million on the $4,000,000 Platinum Payout game remain up for grabs.
