When lottery players hit big jackpots, many of them choose to retire and follow their passions in life. But when Michigan native Julie Leach won a $310.5 million Powerball jackpot, she led her family in an exodus toward retirement.
She has chosen to receive her prize in a one-time payment of about $197.4 million before taxes or about $140 million net of taxes. Leach, her partner and their two adult children have all given their notices. The winner plans to buy land and homes for all of them.
