Alabama Governor Wants Lottery To Help Fund Medicaid

The cost of Alabama’s Medicaid program has almost doubled in the last ten years and it is a struggle for find the money to keep it running.  Governor Robert Bentley proposes that a statewide lottery to benefit Medicaid is the only way to get funds for the program.

The governor has stated he believes such a move would be supported by 70% of his people.  However, polls show that people are more likely to support an education lottery than one which benefits the general fund; the only problem is that there is a lot of excess cash in the budget for education and it is Medicaid that is hurting.
