Most people believe that a lottery win will make all their dreams come true. A Filipino-American retiree found out that sometimes that is not the case.
Teofilo Mesina of Virginia won a million dollar consolation prize the day the record $1.5 billion jackpot was won. He ended up netting $600,000 after all taxes were deducted. He and his wife want to use the money to secure the futures of their children and grandchildren.
However, after news about his win broke out a sibling cautioned them it might not be advisable to travel to their home country just yet. Mesina had to cancel his regular yearly trip home.
