The winner of a $1 million Powerball prize has just been identified. She is Melinda Rother from Grand Island.

Rother has been playing the lottery for many years. She has always bought Powerball tickets from Casey’s General Store at Five Points. This time though, one of her tickets came through for her. She managed to match all five white ball numbers drawn, but missed the powerball. Still that is good enough for a $1 million payout. Her ticket won in Saturday’s draw but she only learned about it when she checked results online Sunday.

Still she says her life will not change much. She still plans to continue volunteer work for the Salvation Army and to teach Sunday school. The bulk of her winnings she wants to use to help family. She wants to help her sister earn a degree as a veterinary technician, and help out her son, niece and nephew. Oh, and she wants to buy a new grill for herself.

The winner says she feels blessed every day and the win is just “icing on the cake.”
