The National Theater of Scotland wanted to convert a former warehouse in Glasgow into a purpose-built headquarters. There was only one catch – they did not have the money to finance the project. So the NTS launched an appeal for contributions and received a big response.
Chris and Colin Weir, who had won a huge £161 million Euromillions jackpot 5 years ago agreed to donate £1 million – just like that. There’s plenty more where that came from anyway. And the Weirs made it clear they were glad to be of help.
NTS says that donations will reduce the need for borrowing money for the project and that they expect the bidding for the project to start next year.
