The jackpot offered by the Powerball Lottery in the US is poised to set a new record with estimates for Saturday’s draw reaching $675 million. The previous record set in 2012 was for $656 million.
The huge jackpot sent ticket sales soaring; in New York, ticket sales were averaging nearly $1 million per hour. In part because of the size of the prize pot it might well be worth it to play this Powerball draw as a syndicate; even if a group of 100 people were to share the jackpot, that will still give more than $6 million per player.
