A man who bought a scratch off ticket from the New York Lottery was rudely greeted by a message on the ticket that said “You Elmira Trash.” Initially the owner of the store in Elmira asked police to investigate, thinking the ticket had been tampered.

The lottery, however, confirmed the ticket was genuine and issued an apology saying that the scratched off letters were ‘random’ machine selections.  They also said they have asked the printers to remove the possibility of trash being spelled on a ticket ever again.

Still the ticket buyer is unconvinced saying it cannot be mere coincidence that the ticket was sold in Elmira.
