A Fort Drum soldier has just had a change of fortune. Jesse Vonderhorst bought a $25 Wild Bonanza Multiplier ticket and scratched his way to the top prize of $5 million.

The winner says he likes to play the higher priced instant ticket games and had even tried a lot of $30 scratchers. This time, when he went to the Sunoco on Factory Street in Watertown, he decided to try the Wild Bonanza Multiplier game because he heard that someone had won with it. That turned out to be a great decision in his part, as he bagged the top prize.

He has since chosen to receive his prize as a single lump sum payment of $3,309,000, net of taxes. He says he wants to set aside portions of his winnings for his three daughters. He’s also planning to take the family to Disneyland. No word though whether he will continue as a soldier or opt to retire.
