Brian McCarthy, the 25 year old son of the Marriott Hotels boss Robert McCarthy, may have just become more wealthy overnight than his father.

Robert McCarthy may have earned a salary of $1.2 Million in 2009, but his son just won $107 Million on the Mega Millions lottery.

Brian was shopping at the Giant Food store in Herndon, Virginia, when on a whim he bought 5 quick pick tickets for the Mega Millions. He had no idea how big the jackpot was.

It was a few days later when he got round to checking his tickets, and got the surprise of his life when he discovered he had matched all the winning numbers and was the sole jackpot winner.

Brian chose the lump sum payment option, and collected $68 Million. He has bought himself a couple of treats already, in the shape of a $59,000 BMW M3 and a couple of trips, as well as some initial charity donations. He said:

I’d like my family to be able to enjoy it as much as I can. And also help out some charities along the way.

He has now left his job with Pepsi as an account manager, but isn’t sure what he plans do to next. At 25, he now has a lifetime ahead of him without any money worries.
