A Publix supermarket in Zephyrhills, a suburb of Tampa, is set to receive a hefty sum for selling the one ticket that won a huge $590.5 payout from the Powerball lottery.  This is now the new record for Powerball jackpots that once stood at $587.5 million.

With about 80% of all possible number combinations for the Powerball Lottery in play, it was almost certain that someone will win the jackpot earlier estimated at $600 million.  And someone who bought a ticket at a supermarket in Zephyrhills, Florida did, to the tune of $590.5 million.

The Illinois Lottery confirmed that, due to a human error, it had issued 8 checks worth a total of $9,940 to winners.  One person failed to approve payments of the winning checks on time, so the bank did not release payment.

Though his wife told him that buying lottery tickets is just a waste of money, Raymond Lillington of Dingwall, Nova Scotia kept buying tickets for forty years without any majors wins to show for it.

Hedra Dawod was in a convenience store with his roommate Marko Matta decided to try his luck in the lottery.

Being a believer in lucky numbers, he asked the clerk for a ticket that matched number 041 on the roll.  However, Dawod had only $7 and borrowed $3 from his friend, with a promise to take care of him should the ticket win.

When Holly Lahti became one of two people to share a $380 million jackpot in 2011, reporters turning up at her home at all times so scared her that she fled with her daughters to a coastal area far from Idaho.

Raymond Lillington’s wife Gayle always told him that betting on the lottery was a waste of money.   But Raymond of Dingwall, Nova Scotia, continued buying lottery tickets, a habit, he says that has lasted forty years, and never gave him any major winnings.

After having been forced pay taxes on a PT Cruiser he won in a raffle in 2007,  Sherman W. Friend of Pennsylvania vowed never to pay taxes on winnings again.

California Lottery officials are excited as lottery fever hits the state that has just recently joined the multi-state Powerball last month.

This developed as the estimated jackpot for this Saturday’s Powerball draw rose to $550 million, making any payout rank among the top 3 biggest jackpots in the US ever.
