Michael Simmons, of Staten Island, New York only bets whenever the Powerball jackpot is high, and averages only $10 a month in bets.

Feeling lucky one day, he decided to place a Powerball bet, which turned out to be one of the best financial decisions he has ever made.  His combination of 5-6-16- 36-58 matched the first five numbers drawn on Powerball, good enough to bag the second prize of $1 million ($623,040 after taxes).
