National Lottery operators Camelot have announced that yet another winning ticket had lain unclaimed past the 180-day period and has therefore expired.  The prize of £118,609 for the 10 July 2013 draw and the interest it has earned, will now be given to the charities that benefit from the National Lottery.  The National Lottery stated that it had taken steps to find the winner of the June 1o draw to no avail.

The National Lottery advised players to check on their tickets to prevent any prizes from being forfeited.  All National Lottery draws give players only 180 days from the date of the draw in order to make a claim for the prize.  After the deadline passes without any claimants the prize money and the interest thereon are turned over to the National Lottery Good Causes.

Perhaps the National Lottery can take a few lessons from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming which recently successfully tracked a woman who won a $50 million jackpot.  Interestingly, the woman was awarded the prize money even if she had lost her ticket!
