This week it took a cabbie’s help for a Scottish lottery player to discover a million dollar win.  AFilipino retiree and a group of 13 hospital workers are among the many powerball players to bag million dollar consolation prizes.

When Christine Collins of Stamford stopped by the Star Food Mart at Oxford Sunoco, she was attracted to the brightly colored Win For Life instant tickets that she bought three of them. 

A man named Jonny Smith tried to pass off what seems like an ineptly altered scratch card as a £250,000.  He claims that an accidental fire had obliterated a strategic portion of the ticket where the bar code and game number. 

There is just something awfully wrong with a 73-year old man having to work as a cab driver just to make ends meet.  Now Kilbride pensioner and taxi driver Arthur Howard has the lottery to thank for getting him out of his financial rut.

While the focus on the recent $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot were on the three big winners, the record number of players also resulted in lots of tickets winning substantial consolation prizes. 

The year did not start well for Alan Tyrie as he lost his welder job on January 11th.  But just two weeks later, he won a £1 million jackpot from the lottery – he did not even have a job to resign from by then!

A mistake in punching caused by store clerk Michael Donnelly resulted in the machine spitting out a Cash4Life ticket instead of the Powerball ticket the customer wanted.
